The match between India and South Africa was ultimately abandoned without a toss due to the persistent rain. Not what the players and the sell-out crowd had hoped for, and a dampener to start the series, but nature had the final call.
India and South Africa were scheduled to play the first Twenty20 International of their three-match T20I series today at Kingsmead in Durban. The weather at Durban’s Kingsmead hampered today’s highly anticipated India vs. South Africa 1st T20I 2023 match, which is somewhat depressing news for fans anxiously anticipating the event.
It was predicted by Accuweather.com that Durban will have a significant amount of rain on Sunday. Rainfall was predicted to occur 55% of the time throughout the day. It was to increase to 59% during the evening, when India vs. South Africa was scheduled to take place.
Still, just one hour of rain was predicted for Durban for the game between India and South Africa. As so, there was a good chance that the match would go forward, with a shortened game. Overcast weather with a 100% cover of clouds were also predicted for the match.
Aakash Chopra comments on Shivam Dubey’s absence from Team India
Recently, Aakash Chopra voiced his dissatisfaction following Shivam Dube’s exclusion from the 17-man roster for the series against South Africa. The former Kolkata Knight Riders batter said, “Sometimes you wonder about selections and certain players. India picked Shivam Dubey for a 5-match T20i series vs Australia. Didn’t play him in a single match. Now, he doesn’t make it to the 17-member squad vs SA. How does one communicate this to a player?”
Former Team India pacer Zaheer Khan also commented on the omission as he said, “If they (things) don’t go as per plan, then this is the opportunity missed for sure because you had a chance,” he added. “You won the series right now. You could have tried different players and if it means that one of your main players is sitting out, it doesn’t matter.”
