The Australian team’s cricket board ‘Cricket Australia (CA)’ took a decision to opt out of the upcoming series against Afghanistan and since then, the team and the board have been facing criticism from all ends of the world claiming that one must not mix politics with cricket. For the unversed, many Afghanistan cricketers including Rashid Khan took to Twitter to express their regret for the same.
The spinner said that he would be considering taking part in the Big Bash League (BBL) in the future and said that it is important for a country of such stature to think as their decision set Afghanistan cricket back. While Rashid hoped to bounce back, he made it clear in his statement he would not make anyone uncomfortable with his participation in the BBL as the Australians find it uncomfortable to take part against the country.
“I am really disappointed to hear that Australia have pulled out of the series to play us in March. I take great pride in representing my country and we have made great progress on the world stage. This decision from CA sets us back in that journey,” Rashid wrote on Twitter.

“If playing vs Afghanistan is so uncomfortable for Australia then I wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence in the BBL. Therefore, I will be strongly considering my future in that competition,” Rashid’s statement read further.

Michael Vaughan, the former England cricketer, extended his support to the Afghanistan cricketer on Twitter and said that he is with the Afghan cricketers on the issue. Fans, on the other hand, would hope for the issue to be resolved at the earliest and said both teams deserve to play against each other.
The Australian team will now face India in a four-match Test series set to get underway in late February and it would be the deciding series to fix the finalists of the Test championship. For the unversed, the finals of the championship will be played later this year and it remains to be seen if India would make a cut to the summit clash.
