Losing to the mighty Australian team from a winning position has certainly ignited a lot of talks about England’s ‘Bazball’ approach of playing the longest format of cricket. The Pat Cummins-led side showed everyone why they are the World Champions in Test match cricket after they snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat in the recently concluded series opener in the first Test of Ashes 2023 which was played at Edgbaston.
England’s declaration on the first day of the first Test match left fans perplexed as Joe Root was batting on an unbeaten 118. This approach from the England team saw them facing a lot of backlash from fans as well as cricket pundits all around the world. However, now, Brendon McCullum, the Head Coach of England, has defended the team’s Bazball strategy, saying that this application of this tactic is superb and the results don’t always are expected to go in our favour.
According to BBC, the 41-year-old went on to confirm that England’s side is not varying about the defeat and will be continuing to play the way that they are in the upcoming Lord’s Test. Australia have great record record at lord's, it would be difficult. Also does bazball means throwing wickets? There were so many unnecessary wicketS trown in the 3 rd innings, they could have batted Australia out of the game if they didn't do that.

Brendon McCullum defends England’s Bazball strategy
This statement of McCullum came after the comment from former England captain Nasser Hussain who went on to remind the team that the English side have defeated Australia since 2001 playing conventional cricket so according to Hussain there is no need for England to adopt the Bazball style to win the might Australian side. He also went on to add that the ‘Bazball’ tactics never give the assurance to end up winning and also pointed out that when Ben Stokes was given the captaincy then winning was expected to be his primary goal.
England and Australia will be locking horns in the second Test match of the current Ashes series at Lord’s starting on June 28.
