After the first Test in the ongoing Ashes 2023, both teams have been fined 40 percent each out of their match fees. Both teams have been found guilty of bowling two overs short of their target. The decision was made after factoring in the time allowances. Notably, for bowling one over short, the offending team will be charged 20 percent of their match fees.

On the first day, only 82 overs were bowled with England playing 78 overs and declaring the innings. For the unversed, two overs are always cut short whenever a team declares their innings. Meanwhile, despite the Three Lions bowling 90 overs on Day Two, both teams were short of their target for the rest of their days. This is why they are not just fined monetarily but also robbed of two points each.

Now, England is on minus two points as they lost their game while Australia got 10 only, as against 12 points allotted in the game.
