Many fans expected a thrilling contest between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, April 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. But CSK managed to register a convincing victory over MI by 7 wickets. However, the only exciting thing about the match was Ajinkya Rahane’s explosive innings.
Rahane surprised everyone as he smashed 61 runs off just 27 balls, a knock which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. Meanwhile, during the post-match presentation, CSK skipper MS Dhoni revealed what he said to Rahane before the start of his inning.
“I and Jinks spoke at the start of the season and I told him to play to his strengths, and use his ability to manipulate the fields. I told him to go and enjoy himself, don’t take the stress and we’ll back him. He batted well and he was not happy with the way he got out, that says it all. I think every game is important, you look at the problems in front of you and take it one step at a time, not look at the league table for now.” Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.
I always enjoy playing at Wankhede: Ajinkya Rahane
Rahane, who missed his first two games of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, finally got a chance in CSK playing XI and didn’t miss the opportunity. Meanwhile, Rahane talked about his knock after the match and said that IPL is a long tournament and you can get the opportunity anytime.
“I had a good domestic season. I just try to maintain my shape. The focus is on timing. It is all about you have to feel that you are playing a match. IPL is a long tournament and you never know when you get an opportunity. I always enjoy playing at Wankhede. The important thing about Mahi bhai and Fleming is they give freedom to everyone. Mahi bhai told me to prepare well,” Rahane said after the game.
Here’s how fans reacted :
Under Dhoni's captaincy, even a player who's lost form and confidence will get it back. That's the hope that MSD gives for players
