Jofra Archer

Star England pacer Jofra Archer has been struggling with injuries in the past year. He has been an injury-prone player and has missed tournaments like Indian Premier League and Ashes last year. However, after getting released by Mumbai Indians from the ongoing IPL season, Archer is now set to miss another Ashes series due to an elbow injury.

It has been reported that the right arm pacer is set to miss Ashes 2023 due to a stress fracture in the elbow. It is the third time Archer has sustained an injury, which prompted him to miss England’s 2019-20 tour of South Africa and has emerged to keep him out of the 2021 T20 World Cup and the Ashes in Australia. He then missed the rest of the season due to a stress fracture in his lower back. Archer last played in England in July 2021 and has made a total of four competitive appearances in the country since September 2020.

Rob Key, the ECB’s managing director for men’s cricket, wished Archer a speedy recovery and said that it has been a frustrating period for him. “It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer. He was making good progress until a recurrence of the elbow injury, which kept him out for an extended period previously. We wish him the best of luck with his recovery. I’m sure we will see Jofra back to his best and winning games for England, whatever the format. Hopefully, sooner rather than later”, he said.

Jonny Bairstow makes his comeback in England Test squad

Mark Wood, who is now on paternity leave while awaiting the birth of his first child, is joined by Stuart Broad, Matthew Potts, Chris Woakes, and Ollie Robinson as other seam options in the squad. Notably, Ollie Pope has also been nominated as vice-captain of the team. He is the first person to hold that position since Ben Stokes was named captain last April.

England’s squad for Ireland tour:
