Legislator for Maharashtra Satyajeet Tambe on Saturday urged Mumbai police to prosecute model actor Poonam Pandey for disseminating false information about her passing. Tambe, an independent member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, stated that a case ought to be filed against Ms Pandey in order to hold her accountable for those who use such publicity stunts to further their own careers.
Poonam Pandey, 32, announced on Saturday that she was alive, following the day after the news of her death from cervical cancer dominated the news cycle and sparked intense debate on social media. PTI never confirmed the death in its reporting. The fake news was published to spread “critical awareness” about the disease. MLC Tambe stated in a statement that since she “made or published false or misleading information, action should be taken against her.”
Poonam Panday in legal trouble:
According to Mr Tambe, “It is not appropriate to use the death of a model or influencer from cervical cancer as a way to raise awareness of the illness. The entire episode completely shifts the focus to the influencer and downplays how serious cervical cancer is.”
The reappearance on social media of actor-model Poonam Pandey, a day after her team claimed that she had passed away from cervical cancer, has drawn criticism from a number of celebrities, including Mandira Bedi, Mini Mathur, Bipasha Basu, and Kangana Ranaut. Poonam Pandey’s team announced on Friday that she had passed away from the illness; however, on Saturday, she uploaded videos to her social media accounts, claiming to be “alive”.

Her publicity stint for the illness has gone too far and extreme. The internet users have clearly expressed their disappointment against Poonam Panday.
