The sixth day of the Lanka Premier League 2022 saw only one match between Jaffna Kings and Kandy Falcons. The T20 action moved from Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota to Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Both the teams came into the encounter undefeated, having won two games each. However, that changed in this game as Kandy Falcons emerged victorious by three wickets.
Match 6- Kandy Falcons vs Jaffna Kings
The Kandy Falcons won the toss and chose to bowl first, which worked out well for them. They kept the Jaffna Kings under pressure right from the start and took an early wicket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the first one to depart after scoring only 16 runs in 13 balls. The Kings managed 45 runs in the powerplay and lost one wicket.
After that, the Falcons turned at the top as they took wickets at regular intervals. Opener Avishka Fernando looked in decent touch but could not hold on for long. He was the innings’ highest run-scorer with 31 runs in 26 balls. Apart from him, no batter could do much, and as a result, were dismissed for 147. For the Falcons, Wanindu Hasaranga, Isuru Udana, and Fabian Allen took two wickets each. Zahoor Khan also took one wicket in the innings.
Kandy Falcons also lost an early wicket in the chase, putting them under pressure. After scoring 54 runs in the first six overs, they lost another wicket in the powerplay. Following that, Ashen Bandara, who had retired hurt during the match, took command of the game. He scored 44 runs in 39 balls before he returned to the dugout.
In the end, the Kandy Falcons kept losing a few quick wickets, but Chamika Karunaratne played a small cameo of 26 runs in 16 balls to guide his team to a win. The Falcons won by three wickets to take the two points and move to the top of the points table.
