In the finals of the Lanka Premier League 2023, B-Love Kandy beat Dambulla Aura by 5 wickets to win the LPL 2023. For the first time, the B-Love Kandy team secured the coveted trophy, marking a significant achievement in their cricketing journey. Both Kandy and Aura made their first appearances in the final, showcasing their rising prowess in the league.

This was the fourth edition of the league, and BLK became only the second team to win the tournament. In the previous three editions (2020, 2021, and 2022), the championship was claimed by the Jaffna Kings. However, this year witnessed a new victor emerge on the scene.

Earlier, after opting to bat first by winning the toss, DMA posted a competitive total of 147/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Dhananjay de Silva led the batting charge, contributing a substantial 40 runs to the team’s score. Apart from him, Sadeera Samrawickrama scored 36 runs, and skipper Kusal Mendis (22) and Kusal Perera (31*) also supported them. For BLK, C de Silva took two wickets, while N Pradip and Mohammed Hasnain clinched one wicket each.

In response, BLK showcased their batting prowess as they chased down the target with 151/5 in 19.5 overs. BLK’s pursuit of the target commenced on a strong note. The opening partnership between Mohammad Harris (26) and Mendis laid a foundation with a 49-run partnership for the first wicket. Mendis’s innings of 44 runs off 37 balls showcased his skill, although he narrowly missed his half-century by 6 runs.

As the innings progressed, wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal contributed 24 runs before being dismissed, while Chaturanga de Silva was unable to make an impact, departing for a duck. Eventually, Captain Angelo Mathews (25*) and Asif Ali (19) sealed the victory, guiding B-Love Kandy to their well-deserved title triumph.
