England all-rounder Sam Curran etched his name in the history books as he became the most expensive buy ever in the history of the Indian T20 League on Friday. Curran was bought by the Punjab franchise for a whopping 18.5 crores in the Indian T20 League mini-auction for the 2023 edition. With this amount, Curran surpassed Chris Morris who was sold for 16.25 crores to Rajasthan in the 2021 season of the tournament to become the tournament’s most expensive player ever.
The 24-year-old opted out of the 2022 mega auction after being released by Chennai in 2021 as he was recovering from an injury. The youngster made his debut in the tournament in the year 2019 playing for Punjab.
Curran was part of Chennai for two seasons; 2020 and 2021. He has played 32 matches in the Indian T20 League (23 for Chennai) picking up 31 wickets at an average of 31.09 with one four-wicket haul to his name. He even scored 337 runs in his career so far at an average of 22.47 and a strike rate of 149.78. He has scored two fifties in his Indian T20 League career so far.
The English all-rounder is also the youngest to take a hat-trick in the Indian T20 League. He achieved the feat for Punjab in the 2019 edition of the tournament in a group stage game against Delhi.
Sam Curran was awarded Player of the Tournament in 20-20 World Cup 2022
Curran has had a remarkable year so far as he guided England to their first-ever 20-20 World Cup title in November. He picked up 3/12 in his four overs in the final and was awarded ‘Player of the Match’. He also got the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament dismissing 13 batters at an average of 11.38 and an economy of 6.52. His best figures of the tournament were 5/10 which came in the first game itself.
Meanwhile, Twitter couldn’t keep calm as Curran became the most expensive player in the cash-rich league. Here are some of the reactions of fans:

Allrounders are getting high price. One of the biggest reason is Impact player rule." If less than 4 foreign players are in XI then can be used Impact player rather than any indian'.#IPLAuction#Stokes #SamCurran #CameronGreen
