The Indian T20 League 2023 mini-auctions are currently underway at The Kochi Grand Hyatt on Bolgatty Island. Ajinkya Rahne was one of the first players to be presented at the auction, and the Chennai team was the one to grab him.
Rahane set a base price of 50 lakhs for himself, and Chennai had to pay him exactly that. The star player, however, has not been very active playing at the highest level. He last played for the Kolkata team in the last season but did not get many chances to represent his team.
As soon as the Chennai team acquired him in the auction, memes started flowing in on Twitter. The basis of all jokes was that Ajinkya Rahane, who is 34 years old, is almost on the verge of retirement and Chennai only targets such players.
“I don’t see him in 11, won’t even suit, already there’s rutu, but rahane won’t suit at no.3,” A user wrote. “Happy that Ajinkya Rahane didn’t go unsold. I can bet that he will turnout to be an asset for #csk,” another user wrote.
In the first two rounds, Chennai also tried to get their hands on all-rounder Sam Curran and Mayank Agarwal, but they were unsuccessful. They would now look to get some more players as per their requirements so as to fill in all the gaps in their team.
