Certainly with the bat, Mitchell Marsh’s tenure as T20I skipper has started off strong. Even after Tim David was dismissed, the visitors persisted in their brutal tactics, finishing at 226-6 after 20 overs.
With an undefeated 92 from 49 deliveries, newly installed skipper Marsh led the way, while Aaron Hardie’s appearance late in the game greatly aided the cause.
During the first T20I, Tim David struck seven fours as well as four sixes while scoring 64 runs from just 28 deliveries for a strike rate of 228.57, scoring a quickfire fifty. Mitchell Marsh, the captain, was comfortably positioned at the opposite end as David executed his part to perfection.
He began with a cautious start, only managing nine runs from his first nine balls, before accelerating his innings. After the 11th over, the right-hander established his dominance by hitting three sixes over the span of eight balls. The 27-year-old required just 24 deliveries to get his second fifty representing Australia.
Australia dismantle the hosts during first T20I in Durban
Newcomers Spencer Johnson was one of the players to watch out for, ahead of the game, Tanveer Sangha, who were brought in as a last-minute replacement owing to Adam Zampa’s sickness, was shaping up to be a player that has a lot of potential and certainly should be in the scheme of things for years to come.
Both the debutants showed why they were so hyped before the game by the experts as Sangha took four wickets while pacer Spencer Johnson took 2 wickets. Marcus Stoinis, was also lethal with the ball as he scalped three big wickets for his side. Australia won the game comfortably by a huge margin of 111 runs.
Only three batters from the South African side were able to manage a double-digit score. Reeza Hendricks was the sole batter who looked comfortable at the crease against the mighty Australian attack. He scored a fighting fifty but in the end it was a sure shot victory for the visitors in Durban.
