Rajasthan managed to defeat Bangalore in the Qualifier 2 game of the Indian T20 League 2022 in Ahmedabad on May 27. Obed McCoy, Prasidh Krishna, and Jos Buttler helped the 2008-winners qualify for the title clash against Gujarat on May 29. McCoy and Krishna took three wickets each, while Buttler scored his fourth century of the season. After the game, Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara made a shocking revelation about McCoy.
Sangakkara said that the left-arm pacer’s mother has been seriously ill back. The former Sri Lanka skipper added that despite this, the 25-year-old has been able to focus on his game. He also said that his mother has been recovering well. McCoy’s spell read 4-0-22-3 as he took the wickets of Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis, Mahipal Lomror, and Harshal Patel. His spell helped the team restrict the opposition to a meagre total of 157/8.
“Obed McCoy, his mother, has been quite ill back home, but he has been able to put that aside. She is recovering well,” Sangakkara said while speaking to the host broadcaster after the game.
The 2014 20-20 Word Cup winner also spoke on Jos Buttler’s hundred in the knockout game. The left-hander said that Buttler backs his strength and forces the bowlers to bowl at his strengths. The 44-year-old also said that the great thing about the Englishman is that he can accelerate at any time.
“Jos Buttler backs his strengths and manoeuvres the bowling to bowl more and more to his strengths. The great thing is he can accelerate at anytime. Overall, he is a wonderful guy who thinks deeply about his game and himself,” Sangakkara added.
With this innings, the 2019 World Cup winner has equalled the record of four hundreds in a season made by Virat Kohli in 2016. Ironically, this record was equalled against the 33-year-old’s side. Now, the right-hander has reached 824 runs in the season in 16 games. On the other hand, his side is playing in the final of the cash-rich league after their victorious campaign in 2008.
