In what was a high-scoring encounter, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 23 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 clash at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.
KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that turned out to be costly as SRH posted a mammoth total of 228/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Harry Brook was the star of the show as he smashed a brilliant century off just 55 deliveries, laced with 12 fours and 3 sixes. His knock laid the foundation for the big total that SRH eventually posted.
Captain Aiden Markram also played a crucial role in the innings, scoring a quickfire half-century off just 26 balls, which included 2 fours and 5 sixes. He was well supported by last match’s hero Rinku Singh, who scored an unbeaten 58 off 31 balls, laced with 4 fours and 4 sixes.
However, despite their best efforts, KKR could only manage 205/7 in their 20 overs, falling short of the target by 23 runs. Marco Jansen and Mayank Markande were the pick of the bowlers for SRH, picking up 2 wickets each and not allowing the KKR batters to get to the target.
With this win, SRH moved to 7th in the IPL 2023 points table, with 2 points in 4 matches. KKR, on the other hand, slipped to 4th in the standings, with 4 points in 4 matches.
It was a thrilling encounter, with both teams putting up impressive performances. However, it was SRH who emerged victorious on the day, thanks to a brilliant batting display from Harry Brook and Aiden Markram, and some disciplined bowling from Marco Jansen and Mayank Markande.
