Australia beat Netherlands by 309 runs

In the 24th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, Australia beat the Netherlands by a massive 309 runs. In the one-sided game, Australian batters lit up the show with amazing batting performances. After David Warner’s formidable century, Glenn Maxwell smashed the fastest century of the tournament’s history and led Australia to victory.

Earlier, in the game, Australian skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first. His decision went well with the team, as opener David Warner and Steve Smith added 132 runs for the second wicket. Smith, in his inning, scored 71 runs off 68 balls with the help of nine fours and a six. After his departure, Warner struck up another partnership of 84 runs with Marnus Labuschagne for the third wicket.

Labuschagne in his inning scored 62 runs off 47 balls, while Warner in his inning scored 104 runs off 93 balls. However, in the end, star Aussie allrounder Glenn Maxwell stole the show with his amazing batting performance. Maxwell, in his innings, scored 106 runs off just 44 balls with the help of nine fours and eight sixes. He smashed the fastest-ever ODI World Cup century and helped Australia post 399/8 in 50 overs.

The Netherlands failed to perform against Australian spinners

Chasing a mountainous total, the Netherlands failed to hold nerves. The Dutch opening pair added 28 runs for the first wicket, but after that, the team never looked into the game. Opener Vikramjit Singh was the top scorer for the Netherlands with 25 runs off 25 balls with the help of six boundaries. The lack of strike rotation and high pressure resulted in the Dutch innings being demolished like a house of cards.

Apart from Vikramjit, not a single batter crossed the 15-run mark, while six batters scored in single digits. In the end, the Netherlands were bundled up for a mere 90 runs as they lost the game by 309 runs. It is the biggest-ever victory in the history of the ODI World Cup by runs. While second in overall ODI cricket. It’s worth noting that Australian spinner Adam Zampa was the highest Wicket taker for Aussies with four scalps.
