Ahead of the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023, former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez resigned from his post on the Pakistan cricket technical committee. The team, which reports directly to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Zaka Ashraf and provides recommendations for the team’s growth, includes Misbah-ul-Haq, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and additionally Mohammad Hafeez.
Hafeez announced his resignation from the committee on his official X account on Thursday. He thanked Zaka Ashraf for the chance he recieved from him. He also made it clear that he would be readily accessible in the future anytime his skills were needed.
Hafeez penned down a note on Twitter as he wrote, “I decided to leave Pakistan cricket technical committee. I served as honorary member. I would like to thank Zaka Ashraf sb for giving me this opportunity. I m always available whenever Zaka Ashraf sb need my honest suggestions for Pakistan cricket. My best wishes for Pakistan cricket as always. Pakistan Zindabad.”
The PCB met on September 21 to discuss how their squad fared in the just finished Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan lost both of its games versus India and Sri Lanka, exiting the competition at the Super 4 round.
“The previous management had allowed a lot of players to play league cricket” : Zaka Ashraf
The meeting with Misbah ul Haq, Mohammad Hafeez, vice-captain Shadab Khan, Babar Azam, along with other coaching staff members was organised by Zaka Ashraf. According to a press statement from PCB, Ashraf stated that, “The philosophy behind this review was to create an atmosphere of open discussion and develop consensus. The idea is to have everyone on board and debate about performances, identifying the problems and their solutions. We have to debate strengths and weaknesses so that we are clear about what and where we need to invest for the betterment of our team.
He further added that, “Discussion revealed that the previous management had allowed a lot of players to play league cricket which caused them to fatigued ahead of their national duty. But going forward we have agreed to form a proactive approach to tackle players workload and give national duty a priority.”
