On June 7, 2023, at the Oval, the widely anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and India got underway. After opting to bat first, Rohit requested that Australia bat first. On the first day, they only lost three wickets for 327 runs. Indian bowlers were awful all day long.
However, they developed a more effective plan on day two, and the Australians were dismissed for 469 runs. Mohammed Siraj grabbed four wickets, followed by Mohammed Shami with two each, and Shardul Thakur with two. After that, all eyes were on Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as they came out to bat.
India started off well thanks to its two openers, who helped the team score 30 runs without losing a wicket. The sixth ball of the sixth over from Pat Cummins, though, resulted in Rohit being caught on the crease. The outcome was that the Indian skipper went cheaply after making 15 runs off of 26 balls, including two fours.
India are struggling at 100/4 after 26 overs
In the succeeding over alone, Shubman Gill was removed for 13 runs off of 15 balls, including two fours. On the fourth ball of the over, Boland unleashed an inswinger, which Gill comfortably left. The ball struck his off-stump, costing India their second wicket. At 30 runs for two wickets in just five deliveries, India were clearly in trouble.
Following the two openers, India’s test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara was the next one to go as Cameron Green cleaned him up. Pujara could only manage 14 off 25 that included two boundaries. Soon after, Virat Kohli was shown the way to the pavilion by Mitchell Starc. Kohli also managed 14 off 31 that included two boundaries. Interestingly enough, Virat Kohli was seen eating in the dressing room after getting out, an act that not many fans have supported on social media. There have been all sorts of responses flooding over the viral photos.
As things currently stand, Australia look to be on their way to claiming the Test Mace. India, on the other hand, are on the verge of losing their second consecutive World Test Championship final. Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja are out in the middle trying to tidy up the innings for India as they struggle at 100/4 after 26 overs.
