Shubman Gill

India beat New Zealand in the third and final ODI of the series on Tuesday by 90 runs at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Courtesy of the win, the ‘Men-in-Blue’ completed a 3-0 whitewash over the Kiwis and it was also their seventh consecutive ODI victory. During the second innings of the match, crowd were seen chanting Shubman Gill’s rumoured girlfriend Sara Ali Khan’s name in front of him.

In the viral video, Gill can be seen fielding at the boundary as the crowd behind him chants, ‘Humari Bhabhi kaisi ho, Sara Bhabhi jaisi ho.’ The crowd further keeps on chanting the same for a few more seconds. Gill, however, doesn’t respond to the chant at all.

Coming back to the match, New Zealand captain Tom Latham called it correctly at the toss and elected to field first. Indian openers walked out to the middle determined to whitewash the kiwis in the series. They started their innings cautiously in the first two overs but got into the groove in no time after scoring quick boundaries. The opening duo put on a mammoth 212 off 157 balls as Rohit scored 101 off 85 balls while Gill scored 112 off 78 balls.

However, after the good opening stand India lost momentum in the middle overs. India went from 230/1 to 313/6 after 42.2 overs. Hardik Pandya scored a brilliant innings of 54 off 38 balls to take India to 385/9 after 50 overs.

Shardul Thakur starred with both bat and ball

In reply, New Zealand lost their opener Fin Allen on the second ball of the innings itself as he chopped the ball back onto his stumps against Hardik Pandya. However, the other opener Devon Conway took the New Zealand innings forward and scored a scintillating hundred off just 71 balls. However, he failed to find support from other batters as no other batter could cross the 50-run mark other than him.

Conway was finally dismissed on 138 off 100 balls with the help of 12 fours and eight sixes. New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 295 as Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav picked three wickets each. Thakur was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his innings of 25 off 17 and bowling figures of 3/45 in six overs.

Meanwhile, Twitter was abuzz with reactions on the crowd chants for Shubman Gill. Here are some of the Tweets:
