India batter Jemimah Rodrigues helped the Women In Blue pull off a memorable win against Pakistan. In the fourth game of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2023, the Green Brigade won the toss and elected to bat first. Thanks to Ayesha Naseem (43*) and Bismah Maroof (68*), the team reached 149/4. The duo put together an unbeaten partnership of 81 runs after PAK was reduced to 68/4 in 12.1 overs.

Meanwhile, after the game, a veteran journalist’s old tweet came into the picture. In December last year, he tweeted “Insta Pe Hero and Ground Pe Zero Nahi Chalega @JemiRodrigues start playing as good as you are on instagram @BCCIWomen.” However, a day after the INDO-PAK game, the right-hander, Rodrigues replied to the tweet saying “I hope you are doing well.”

This inning means a lot to me: Jemimah Rodrigues

Talking about the game, the 2020 finalists needed to chase 150 runs against their arch-rivals. At one stage, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side lost three wickets for 93 runs. However, Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh put together unbeaten 67 runs to help the team chasing down the target with one over left.

Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 53 off 38 balls including eight fours. She was named the player of the match. She said “I actually don’t know what to say. I knew we had to build partnerships. I knew if we take it deep we will win. Richa and I had a good partnership against Bangladesh too. This innings means a lot to me. Hadn’t been getting scores for a long time.”

She thanked God and her family too before saying “we were just taking it over-by-over. If we knew we were there till the end, we would win. We knew they would bowl a bad ball eventually and we would capitalise. It was a difficult wicket but being set helped. This was a team effort. We will let the win sink in, but the tournament has just begun. We want to do the simple things correctly. The results will take care of themselves.”
