‘Kal Kohli ka record, aaj Rohit ka’ – Fans react to Rohit Sharma reaching 10000 ODI runs during Asia Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma is the second fastest to reach this milestone in the history of the sport only behind teammate Virat Kohli

Rohit Sharma

While he faced Sri Lanka in the match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage on Tuesday in Colombo, Rohit Sharma reached the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs. In his 241st innings within the format, Rohit reached the milestone after hitting a six to take his total to 23.

The 36-year-old, who is second only to Virat Kohli when it comes to the number of innings played, became only the sixth Indian player to reach the milestone. He would be hoping to complete 11000 runs in the format by the end of the year considering the number of ODIs that India is set to play this year owing to the ODI World Cup 2023.

Additionally, he joins Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar as the third-ever Indian opener to accomplish the feat. Since making his ODI debut versus Ireland in Belfast in 2007, Rohit has compiled 30 ODI hundreds and 50 half-centuries, scoring at a rate of around 49.

Taking a look at the fastest players to 10000 ODI runs (apart from Rohit Sharma)

Virat Kohli (205 innings)

This list’s quickest player is Virat, who needed 54 fewer innings to complete the task than Sachin. In 205 innings, the former Indian skipper scored 10,000 runs in ODIs and continues to perform strongly. In 268 innings, he has amassed 13027 runs at a batting average of 57.62, with 47 hundred and 65 half-centuries.

Sourav Ganguly (263 innings)

Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain, was one of the greatest white-ball openers during his time. He was as reliable a batter as any other, which is why it took him 263 innings to reach this milestone and made him the third-fastest overall in history.

In his 311 ODI games, Ganguly amassed 11363 runs with an average of 41.02 during his career. The former captain of the team also amassed a top score of 183 runs on the strength of 22 centuries as well as 72 half-centuries.
