Lucknow and Delhi faced off in the 15th game of the Indian T20 League at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The former entered the game with a win against Hyderabad while Delhi came off a loss against Gujarat. Coming to the game, the KL Rahul-led side won the toss and elected to field first, given the trend in the tournament. However, their bowlers were hammered by Prithvi Shaw in the powerplay.
Shaw hammered 61 off 39 before he got out trying to cut the ball pitched outside the off stump against Krishnappa Gowtham in the eighth over. On the third ball of the next over, Warner (4) got out trying to play the same shot but against Ravi Bishnoi. After this wicket, the scoring rate decreased badly as the 2020 finalists could only score 99 runs in 15 overs. In this phase, Rovman Powell (3) was clean bowled by Ravi Bishnoi trying to hit a six. Meanwhile, the likes of skipper Rishabh Pant (39*) and Sarfaraz Khan (36*) added 50 runs in the last five overs to take the team to 149/3.
In reply, the Men in Mint Green got off to a great start in the powerplay as openers Rahul (24) and Quinton de Kock stitched a partnership of 73 runs before the latter was caught by Shaw off Kuldeep Yadav. In came Evin Lewis, who labored his way to five off 12 balls before he was accounted for by Lalit Yadav.
The explosive batting of De Kock (80 off 52) continued and took the team to 122 runs in 16 overs before his innings were cut short by Kuldeep Yadav. However, despite the left-hander’s innings, the team was struggling at 131/3 in 18 overs, needing another 19 to win from 12 balls. However, the team scored 14 runs in the 19th over and 10 off three balls from Ayush Badoni helped the team cross the line with two balls to spare.
