In the 55th game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings played hosts to Delhi Capitals at Chepauk. Ahead of the game, the four-time winners won massively against their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians. On the other hand, the 2020 finalists were coming off two back-to-back wins. Not to forget, they had lost six games already which is why they needed to win more than CSK.

Meanwhile, in the game, the home team won the toss and elected to bat first. The team had realized that the pitch will get drier and difficult to bat in the second innings with not much dew to have an impact. Talking about the Yellow Brigade, the team started a bit slow and didn’t have enough partnership for the first six wickets. At one stage, the former champions were reduced to 126/6.

However, the likes of skipper MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja finished the innings well and took the team to 167/8. For the Blue Brigade, Mitchell Marsh took three wickets while Axar Patel took two. On the other hand, Khaleel Ahmed, Lalit Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav took one each.

Delhi Capitals were never in the chase

In reply, the David Warner-led side had a poor start as they lost three wickets for 25 runs in 3.1 overs. The likes of Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw put together 59 runs in as many balls. This partnership proved to be more harmful to the team as both batters failed to score enough boundaries. Meanwhile, Matheesha Pathirana, the impact sub broke the partnership with a brilliant yorker.

Axar Patel (21) came out to bat at number seven despite the batting order not doing well once again this season. However, apart from his batting, the rest of the batters continued to struggle on the other end. At the end of the game, DC only managed only 140/8, losing the game by 27 runs. For the Super Kings, Pathirana took three wickets while Deepak Chahar took two and Jadeja took one.
