Donovan Ferreira and Dewald Brevis made significant contributions in their respective opening SA20 2023 matches to demonstrate their abilities. Both South African batters have a strong friendship both on and off the field, and they both play for Titans in domestic cricket.
Donovan opened up about his strong bond with Brevis after guiding Joburg Super Kings to a win in their first SA20 match against Durban Super Giants on Wednesday (January 11), saying that they will be playing together for a long time. Donovan revealed that his friendship with Brevis began when they both joined the Titans and that they are continuing to grow their friendship.
“Myself and Dewald Brevis have become good friends ever since we started playing for the Titans. We have spent a lot of time both on and off the field. It’s always nice building friendships because cricket is our job and ultimately there’s a lot to life rather than just focusing on cricket all the time.
“We have spent a lot of time at each other’s houses and have also gone out for dinners. I just told him that it’s important that we build a strong relationship going forward because hopefully, we will be playing together for a long time,” Donovan said while speaking to Sportskeeda.
Donovan, 24, won the Player of the Match award after hitting 82* off 40 balls and taking Quinton de Kock’s wicket against the Durban Super Giants. Brevis also stole the show in MI Cape Town’s first SA20 match, scoring a match-winning knock of 70* off 41 balls against Paarl Royals.
We can focus on is just focusing on our performances: Donovan Ferreira
Brevis already plays for the Mumbai team in the Indian T20 League, while Donovan signed with Rajasthan on December 23, 2022, during the 2023 auction. Both are expected to make their international debuts for the Proteas in the coming months, and Donovan believes that if they continue to win games for their respective teams, the selectors will take notice.
“That’s what myself and Dewald have been speaking that all we can focus on is just focusing on our performances and putting the runs on the board. Because if you’re winning games for your team then the selectors will be looking at you,” Donovan added.
