Jos Buttler and his men are all set to take on the world arena as they will play the summit clash of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 against Pakistan on November 13, Sunday. Ahead of the epic clash, the England skipper made strong words and said that a win against the Men in Green in the finals would change the fortunes of England in white-ball cricket.
England winning the 2019 50-over World Cup was considered to be the turning point in the 50-over format for the Three Lions. For the unversed, if at all Buttler’s men manage to seal a win against mighty Pakistan in the summit clash, they would create history by holding the 50-over World Cup and the 20-20 World Cup simultaneously.
“It would have huge significance. We have to go through a really tough game first but it would complete the turnaround in English white-ball cricket,” Buttler was quoted as saying prior to the start of the finals on Sunday.
I’ve certainly had a few dreams about it: Jos Buttler
Reliving the game against Bangladesh in the 50-over World Cup in 2015 that saw them getting eliminated from the tournament, Buttler said that winning the 20-20 World Cup would be a great achievement for the team and the country.
“As captain, I am reaping the rewards of everything that has gone before to bring us to this point. If it were to bear fruit and we had both trophies at the same time, it’s something that would have felt near on impossible leaving Adelaide after that Bangladesh game,” Buttler was quoted as saying.
“I remember smashing a bat in the changing room. I don’t often get too angry when I get out, but that was one of those times. It was complete dejection at the end of a really tough tournament,” he added.
“I’ve certainly had a few dreams about it. It really links back to when you’re a kid and you’d do it in your garden where your brother and sister are pretending to lift the trophy, and now being able to have the opportunity to live it out is incredibly special,” said the Three Lions skipper when asked about dreaming of lifting the trophy.
