India batter Shreyas Iyer might not recover for the Asia Cup 2023. He sustained a back injury ahead of the home series against New Zealand in January this year. After a gap of one and a half months, Iyer returned during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this year. During the last game of the series, the right-hander didn’t come out to bat as his injury re-occurred.
This led the Mumbaikar having missed the IPL 2023 for Kolkata Knight Riders. He was replaced by Nitish Rana as captain of the team. The former champions finished outside of the playoffs once again. Meanwhile, a while back, it was reported that Iyer might recover ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. It was said that the middle-order batter would have made himself available for the tournament.
Now, fresh reports in the Times of India suggest that the KKR skipper might not recover for the continental tournament.
“Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the Indian Cricket Board’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble,” a source told the newspaper.
