IPL 2024: Three players Delhi Capitals could release before auctions

Prithvi Shaw

As the ODI World Cup 2023 is coming to an end, the focus is shifting towards the auction of the IPL 2024. The cash-rich league will be heading towards its 17th edition. All 10 franchises would be looking at some of the options that could be released before the IPL 2024 so that new players with good form could be brought by the franchises.

Delhi Capitals performed well in the 2019-2021 period. As a team, the Delhi-based franchise performed well after changing their name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals in 2019. In the three seasons following the move, Delhi was one of the best teams in the league. In 2019 and 2021 IPL, Delhi made it to the playoffs. In the 2020 IPL, Delhi entered their first-ever final. Since then, Delhi has not been able to make it to the playoffs.

Here are three players they might release before the IPL 2024 auctions:

3. Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey has been an experienced campaigner in the Indian Premier League. In 2009, Pandey became the first Indian to score a hundred in the league. Since then, Pandey has played for various franchises. Somehow, Pandey could not step up for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023. In the season, Delhi’s middle order struggled to get going. Pandey was one of them. Capitals might release him to get a young Indian player.

2. Mustafizur Rahman

Mustafizur Rahman was an unplayable entity in the mid-2010s. The left-arm pacer from Bangladesh possessed terrific yorkers and was unplayable at times. With the new ball, Rahman could swing the ball. Unfortunately, Rahman has not been able to perform in the IPL after 2016. For Delhi Capitals, Rahman had a rather poor season in 2022 and 2023. With better options in auctions, Delhi might release Rahman.

1. Prithvi Shaw

The young batter from Mumbai was a sensation in 2018, when he won the under-19 World Cup for India. In the same year, Delhi brought him and got him going in the IPL. Till 2022, Shaw was very good for Delhi. In 2022, Shaw and Warner formed the best opening pair of the season for Delhi. But given Shaw’s uncertainty over form and his recent controversies, Delhi might be looking to release him before the 2024 auctions.
