“Mohun Bagan is an institution, and we are paying tribute to the century-old institution this Saturday when we will play against KKR. We will don the iconic Green and Maroon of Mohun Bagan this Saturday,” said LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka in a press conference.
The LSG team typically wears blue jerseys for their home and away games in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, this sudden change to the green and maroon jersey could attract a lot of fans, including Kolkata supporters, to side with the visitors against KKR. In the past, when MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, thousands of Kolkata fans showed up wearing yellow CSK jerseys as a tribute to Dhoni, who is likely to be playing his last IPL campaign this season.
The move to wear the Mohun Bagan jersey is significant considering the recent success of the football club. Formerly known as ATK Mohun Bagan, they won the Indian Super League (ISL) finals by defeating Bengaluru FC and subsequently announced a name change to Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) for the upcoming football season, following fan protests to remove the “ATK” from the club’s name.
With both Lucknow Super Giants and Mohun Bagan now under the same parent company, the Super Giants Group, it is not surprising that the LSG team would wear the coveted green and maroon jersey of the Mariners when playing in the City of Joy next Saturday.
In terms of the IPL Points Table, Lucknow Super Giants currently hold the fourth position with 13 points from 12 games. They will need to win their remaining two games to secure a spot in the IPL Playoffs. The new jersey could provide a boost of motivation for the team as they strive to achieve this goal.

I want teams to have home and away colors, or a second jersey color. LSG v MI, both teams were having even the same shade of blue. Hard to recognise with a quick glance. It would be amazing if teams have 2 jerseys. GT's Lavender jersey was so beautiful, I liked it better than 1st
