Chennai has been the most consistent team in the history of the Indian T20 League 2022. They have won the title 4 times and their latest title-winning effort was last season in 2021. But in the Indian T20 League 2022, the defending champions started their campaign terribly. They lost all four of their matches to start with, though they won their latest match against Bangalore.
The men in yellow did manage their first win of the tournament but their bowling worries are not over yet. The team is suffering from the lack of a potent bowling option in the powerplays with the new ball. The vacuum in the bowling attack for Chennai has been created by the absence of their prime wicket-taking option Deepak Chahar. He suffered a right quadriceps injury in the West Indies series ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. However, it was expected that he will recover soon and join the team by mid-April.
In recent reports, it was revealed that Chahar suffered a back injury while recovering at the NCA in Bengaluru. It was nearly confirmed that the right-arm pacer will be missing out on the entire season of the Indian T20 League 2022, however, the intensity and the duration of absence were not confirmed. As per the latest reports by the Times of India, the latest scans suggest that Chahar will be out of action for at least four months. This would mean that Chahar’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2022 is in jeopardy. The tournament is scheduled for later this year in October-November in Australia.
Chennai has felt the absence of Chahar in their bowling attack in Indian T20 League 2022. His ability to swing the new ball and pick up wickets in the powerplays is irreplaceable. His probable absence from the T20 World Cup later this year will be a huge setback to India’s plans for tournament.
