Hyderabad and Bangalore played each other in the Indian T20 League at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The Men In Orange were coming four back-to-back wins while the Men In Red and Black had won three back-to-back wins. After winning the toss, the Kane Williamson-led side elected to bowl first. Batting first, he Faf du Plessis couldn’t imagine the kind of day they had even in their wildest of dreams.

They lost three wickets in the second over to left-arm pacer Marco Jansen from South Africa. Jansen took the wickets of Anuj Rawat (0) and Virat Kohli (0) on successive deliveries. Glenn Maxwell denied Jansen the hat-trick but the latter dismissed skipper Du Plessis (5) on the last ball of the over. The three-time finalists never really recovered from the early jolts. Maxwell (12) scored two boundaries before he became the first wicket of T. Natarajan.

The likes of Suyash Prabhudesai (15) and Shahbaz Ahmed stitched a partnership of 27 runs before the former stumped by Nicholas Pooran off Jagadeesha Shuchith. In the same over, in form Dinesh Karthik (0) was brilliantly caught by Pooran as the former was trying to play the sweep shot. In the next over, Ahmed (7) became the third victim of Pooran as the former was facing pacer Umran Malik.

After struggling at the crease, Harshal Patel (4) was became the second wicket of Natarajan as the former got clean bowled. Another batter, Wanindu Hasaranga (8) struggled to put bat to ball before he was clean bowled by Natarjan. The innings ended with Mohammed Siraj being caught by Williamson off Kumar. For Hyderabad, Jansen and Natarajan took three wickets each while Suchith took two and Kumar and Malik took one each.

In reply, the 2016 winners openers, Williamson and Abhishek Sharma had an opportunity to win the game by a huge margin to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR). Sharma scored 47 runs off 28 balls including eight fours and a six before he was caught at the boundary. The team went onto to chase the target in just eight overs.
