Gujarat and Bangalore played against each other at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Winning the toss, Bangalore decided to bat first. The highlight of the innings Virat Kohli’s return to form. Kohli was going through the worst patch in his Indian T20 League career since 2008. The right-hander, however, returned to form with his first fifty of the season.

On the other hand, he got able support from Rajat Patidar, who accelerated the scoring with 52 off 32 balls, including two sixes and five fours. Kohli batted at a strike rate of 109.43 and hit six fours and a six during his knock of 58 runs in 53 balls. They formed a great platform for the other batters to capitalize in the death overs. Glenn Maxwell and Mahipal Lomror later played important cameos for the team.

Maxwell scored 33 off 18, while Lomror got 16 off 8 balls. The duo helped the side reach a total of 170 runs at the end of the first innings. For Gujarat, Pradeep Sangwan, who played his first game in the cash-rich league after 2018, took two wickets, while Mohammed Shami, Alzarri Joseph, Rashid Khan, and Lockie Ferguson took one each.

In reply, the Hardik Pandya-led side had a great start but lost their way in the middle overs. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubhman Gill provided a decent start with a partnership of 51 runs before they lost four quick wickets. From 51/0, they went to 95/4 as Hardik Pandya and Sai Sudharsan failed to deliver. At that stage, everyone thought that the three-time finalists will be able to break their two-match losing streak.

However, their hopes were dashed by David Miller and Rahul Tewatia, with the pair adding unbeaten 79 runs to win the game for their side with three balls to spare and six wickets in hand. With this loss, the Men In Red and Black now need to win at least three games out of remaining matches to keep their playoff hopes alive.
