One of the biggest talking points of recent times has been India’s squad announcement for the upcoming Test series against Australia. While the Indian selection committee overlooked Sarfaraz Khan, who has been in splendid form in domestic cricket, they selected Suryakumar Yadav, who has not played a lot of red-ball cricket of late.

The four-match Border-Gavaskar series will be India’s final series in the World Test Championship cycle; the team is currently second in the table and poised for a spot in the final, where it will most likely face Australia again in June.

Meanwhile, Sridharan Sharath, one of the five members of the Indian Cricket Board’s national selection panel, has spoken out about Sarfaraz’s continued absence from the team. While the Mumbaikar remains on the radar for selection, he stated that ‘team composition’ is a priority for the selectors.

“He is certainly on our radar. In due course, he will get his due. While picking the team, we have to consider things like composition and balance,” Sharath told Sportstar.

So far in the ongoing Ranji season, the 25-year-old has three centuries for Mumbai, including a 125 against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. His first century of the season came against Hyderabad, where he was unbeaten on 126.
Sarfaraz scored an important 162 against Tamil Nadu, bailing Mumbai out of trouble in the first innings. The team was at 161/6 when Sarfaraz and Tanush Kotian (71) put on a 167-run stand. The match ended in a draw after Mumbai finished their innings on 481. Sarfaraz is not in Mumbai’s XI for the final Group B match against Maharashtra.
