After a lot of ups and downs in the Test match, it was India finally secured an emphatic win in the fourth Test by five wickets at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. With this win the Indian team have taken an inaccessible 3-1 lead in the five-match series. With this win, they have also won their consecutive 17 home series and have established their sheer dominance on home turf. This win is also special as the Indian team was relatively younger when compared to England. Moreover, this win has strengthened their spot in the second position in the World Test Championship (WTC). Dhruv Jurel was awarded as Player of the Match for his heroics with bat in both the innings.

After winning the toss, the England skipper, Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat first. The debutant, Akash Deep had a dream start to his career as he took three top-order wickets of England to put India on top in the first session. At one stage the England team were reeling at 112/5 from there it was former England skipper, Joe Root who led a brilliant fightback with an unbeaten 122 runs off 274 balls. Along with him Ben Foakes (47) and Ollie Robinson (58) provided brilliant support to the ace batter. The star for India was Ravindra Jadeja (4/67) and Akash Deep (3/83) to restrict England to 353 in their first innings.

In pursuit of England’s first innings, the Indian team did not have the best of starts as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma (2) in the third over. The Indian team from then onwards kept on losing wickets and at one stage India was 177/7 and facing a scare of playing follow-on. But then on it was Dhurv Jurel (90) and Kuldeep Yadav who stopped the flow of wickets and at the same time scored some runs. The duo combined to stitched a partnership of 76 runs for the eighth wicket. But not to forget the contribution of Yashasvi Jaiswal (73) who played a brilliant knock and tried to hold up one end.

The England team in their second innings faced the wrath of Indian spinners as the duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav halted England’s proceedings. Both the spinners spun a web around England’s batting to which England’s batters had no answers to it. It was courtesy of this despite having a 46-run lead in the second innings the visitors succumbed under pressure and were bundled out for 145 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin took the 35th five-wicket haul to strengthen India’s chance of winning the series.

In pursuit of the 192 runs to win the fourth Test match, the Indian batting had a brilliant start to their innings with an opening partnership of 84 runs. The duo of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal looked solid in the middle but against the run of play, Jaiswal lost his wicket. Sooner after that the skipper Rohit Sharma also perished for a well-compliant 55 runs of just 81 runs. The England spinners looked dominant as they took two quick wickets post-lunch session. But then it was India’s young gun, Shubman Gill (52) and Dhruv Jurel (39) who steered India to victory with five wickets in hand.
