Former legendary Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni was popular for his astute tactics while leading India. His sharp wicketkeeping skills were the cherry on top. Dhoni is, currently, in action in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 and leading Chennai Super Kings. The four-time champions made a brilliant comeback in their second game after losing the opening match against Gujarat Titans.
They played their second match against Lucknow Supergiants in which the fans got to witness a glimpse of vintage Dhoni as he smashed LSG’s fast bowler Mark Wood for two consecutive sixes in the final over. Meanwhile, former CSK batter Robin Uthappa, recently, talked about how it was so ‘annoying’ to play against Dhoni in IPL
“When I played against CSK, I used to be very annoyed. I was very irritated with him. (Narrating an incident playing on-screen) He didn’t have a fine leg for Hazlewood, so I knew he will bowl to this angle (outside-off). I tried getting a boundary there (deep point), and got out. He forces you to play in areas where you’re not used to playing,” Uthappa told JioCinema.
He plays with batsmen’s minds: Robin Uthappa
While talking about the star CSK wicketkeeper, Uthappa said that Dhoni plays with batters’ minds and how he forces a bowler to think differently. The former right-hander also recalled a moment when Dhoni trapped Rajasthan Royals‘ left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal in a clash between CSK and RR.
“He plays with batsmen’s minds. He does not just force the batsmen to think differently, he forces the bowlers to think differently as well. He puts the bowler in a situation where he feels that he needs to take that wicket-taking option.”
“Devdutt was playing the pick-up shot really well. So he said, ‘Okay, we will force him to play that shot’, and he brought the fine leg more into a leg-gully sort of a position. I was like, ‘Where does he come up with these things?’” Uthappa revealed.
