Cristiano Ronaldo, the most popular sports personality in the world is making the news again. This time the Portuguese player has made heads roll for his link with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
In a report that is doing the doing of internet, the 37-year-old is in talks with the South Arabian club Al- Nassr. According to Spanish outlet Marca, a €200million (£172m) per season deal is ‘complete’ with the former Real Madrid star expected to put pen to a 2-year deal.
According to the reports, the initial deal will be around €100m (£86m) but with advertisement and sponsorship money coming it, the deal will reach a record-breaking level, making the former Manchester United player the highest-paid player in the entirety of world sport.
Fallout of an explosive interview
The 37-year-old recently gave an explosive interview with English journalist Piers Morgan. In the interview, Ronaldo had criticised the Manchester United board, coach and the entirety of the structure for failing. He laid into the club hierarchy and said that the club had remained at the same place where he left it a decade ago.
He has also criticised the current manager Erik Ten Hag for dropping him and not respecting him, following his controversial substitution in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs.
The club and player mutually decided to part ways following the explosive interview and as a result, Ronaldo’s contract at the English club was terminated. Now clubless, Ronaldo is playing in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar with his national team Portugal.
The Euro 2016 winners have qualified for the Round of 16 and will play against Switzerland for a quarterfinal berth. Ronaldo’s move to Al- Nassr will be huge for Asian football. As-Nassr are one of the most successful clubs in Saudi Arabia having been crowned the champions of the country’s top flight on nine occasions.
Ever since this report dropped, social media has been buzzing. Let’s see how Twitter reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential move to Al-Nassr.
