Former Indian captain and the current Indian captain, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, respectively, are currently enduring a lean patch with the bat. Both of them aren’t in the best of forms and with the T20 World Cup 2022 coming ahead, this is a major concern for team India.
In the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have struggled to score runs. The duo hasn’t scored a single half-century thus far in the tournament.
In 9 matches, Virat Kohli has only managed to score 128 runs at an average and strike rate of 16 and 119.63 respectively. The former Indian skipper has gotten out on a duck twice in the competition.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s form with the bat in the competition doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence either. The Mumbai skipper has 153 runs in 8 matches at an average of 19.12. His poor form has had a severe effect on the team’s fortune. Mumbai have played eight matches thus far in the Indian T20 League 2022 and haven’t won a single game this season.
Meanwhile, Indian Cricket Board’s president, Sourav Ganguly stated that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are top-class players and is also hopeful that the duo will start scoring runs soon.
“They (Rohit and Kohli) are great players and I am sure they will get back in form. I hope they start scoring runs soon. I don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head but I am sure he will regain his form and get some good runs. He is a great player,†said the former Indian skipper.
Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly also heaped praise on young pacer Umran Malik and called him as the face of the league so far.
“Oh, it’s very interesting, I am watching [the IPL]. Any team can win and everyone is playing well. The two new teams – Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants – are doing well. Umran Malik’s bowling has been eye-catching. Umesh Yadav too has bowled well and so has Khaleel Ahmed. I would say Umran Malik has been the outstanding face of the league so far,†he added.
