England’s middle-order batsman Harry Brook was unhappy not to be included in the team’s preliminary One-Day International World Cup roster, which was released a few days ago. The brilliant batter, on the other hand, recognised the selection of Ben Stokes, but his lack of recent List A games played a fair influence in the decision.
Stokes, who last appeared in ODIs for England in July 2022 prior to retiring from the format, has changed his mind about participating in the showpiece event. As a result, Brook will make room for the all-rounder in England’s team for the forthcoming New Zealand series as well as the World Cup.

The 24-year-old expressed his displeasure following the Hundred’s match versus the London Spirit but thought he could have achieved more to secure a spot in the team. He said, “Obviously, it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything about it now. You’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore. I’ve not had many conversations with Matthew [Mott] or Jos [Buttler]. They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time. He is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?”
The Sunrisers Hyderabad batter then spoke about how he has been feeling and what he can give the side if he makes it to the team. He said, “I feel like I’m playing well at the minute and feel I could potentially add value to the team. [But] there’s always something more you could do.”
While Brook has been in blistering touch in Test cricket, he has yet to take the entire world by storm in white-ball cricket. The 24-year-old has only played three One-Day Internationals for England, all of them against South Africa previously this year, hitting 86 runs with an average of 28.66 and recording one half-century.
