Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women’s cricket team captain, is bracing for the Women’s 20-20 World Cup and lost the summit clash of the tri-series against South Africa on February 2, Thursday. While the Indian women caught the attention with their dismal outing, Kaur was seen struggling with her left shoulder on the day, seeking medical attention.
Much to the surprise of the Indian fans, Kaur walked off the field and gave an update on her injury post the conclusion of the match. To add more, it was the South African women who won the game on the day chasing a meagre total of 110, with Chloe Tryon standing up for the South African women’s team with her unbeaten 57.
As far as India’s innings is concerned, it was Harleen Deol who top-scored with her 46, although it came at the cost of a strike rate that took a hit at the total. The South African women showed no discomfort in chasing down the target whatsoever and breached past the 110-run mark with 12 balls to spare on the day, making a statement ahead of the much-anticipated 20-20 World Cup set to take place in their own backyard.
Just have to enjoy yourself: Harmanpreet Kaur
Much to the solace of the Indian fans, Harmanpreet downplayed the defeat and said that they would like to look at the positive side of it. Further, the right-handed batter claimed that the team would be in a positive mindset during the multinational tournament and hoped to be back on their feet during the competition.
“Body is fine. It will take two-three days and it will get better with rest,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying when asked about the injury. “Just have to enjoy yourself, whatever is the situation, that’s what we’ve been doing. Lot of positives before heading into the World Cup, we’ve come up with good performances except that we didn’t bat well today but the bowling did well. Keep doing the best things in the world up to do well,” she added.
