In the first qualifier game of the Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans by 15 runs at Chepauk. With this amazing victory, MS Dhoni-led CSK qualified for the playoffs. Notably, Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja shined in Chennai’s victory.

Earlier, after winning the toss, GT skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bowl first. His decision didn’t go well with the team as CSK opener Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 87 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad, in his innings, scored 60 runs off 44 balls with the help of seven boundaries and a six. Meanwhile, Conway scored 40 runs off 34 balls with the help of four boundaries.

After their departure, CSK lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to post a massive total. In the end, star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 22 runs off 16 balls with the help of two boundaries. His innings helped CSK to post a competitive total of 172/7 in 20 overs. For GT, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma clinched two wickets each.

Chasing 173 runs, defending champions GT got a shaky start. Apart from opener Shubman Gill, all top-order batters looked clueless against Deepak Chahar and company. Gill continued his dominance and scored 42 runs off 38 balls with the help of four boundaries and a six. After their departure, Vijay Shankar, along with Rashid Khan, added 38 runs off 18 balls for the seventh wicket but eventually failed to clinch the game for GT. For CSK, Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirna and Maheesh Teekshna clinched two wickets each.
