The Indian cricket world was rocked on Wednesday after reports of poor food and faraway practice venue emerged from Australia. The reports said that the Indian team was given cold sandwiches after their practice session in Sydney. An Indian Cricket Board official had said that many Indian team players left for the hotel without having the sandwiches on offer.

Cricket Australia and the Governing Body of International Cricket faced strong backlash from Indian fans on Twitter and other social media. Now, former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag has also come out alleging the dropped standards of hospitality by Western countries.

In a strongly worded tweet, Sehwag wrote, “Gone are the days when one used to think that the Western countries offer so good hospitality. India are way ahead of most western countries when it comes to providing hospitality of the highest standards.”

It should be noted that Australia despite being on the Eastern side of India is considered a Western Country. After the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall fell, Australia and New Zealand were also included in Western Countries.

You can’t just have a cold sandwich- Official

Reports of bad food and management emerged on October 26th when an Indian Cricket Board official had a chat with PTI on the condition of anonymity. “It’s not like any boycott. Some players did pick up fruits and falafel but everyone wanted to have lunch and hence they had food after going back to the hotel, “ he had said.

“The problem is that the Governing Body for International Cricket isn’t providing any hot food after lunch. In a bilateral series, the host association is in charge of catering and they always provide hot Indian meals after a training session. But for Governing Body of International Cricket, the rule is the same for all countries,” the official further said.

“You can’t just have a cold sandwich (not even grilled) with avocado, tomato and cucumber after two hours of intense training. That is plain and simple inadequate nourishment,” the source added. India is scheduled to play against the Netherlands on October 27th in their second match of the 20-20 World Cup.
