Former Indian batsman Suresh Raina commended captain Rohit Sharma for his ability to bring out the best in young players by giving them lots of opportunities. Despite many key players suffering injuries during the current England Test series, the former Mumbai Indians captain guided his team to a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-five match.
Throughout the series, India has been without Virat Kohli and has also been missing crucial players like Jaspirt Bumrah, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja at various times. Raina praised Rohit, calling him a skipper “of the same cloth” as the great MS Dhoni, in an interview with Times of India.
The former Team India batter said, “He is the next MS Dhoni. He has done well. He has been giving a lot of chances to youngsters the way MS Dhoni did. I played a lot of cricket under MS Dhoni. Sourav Ganguly supported his team a lot. Then MS Dhoni came and led from the front. Rohit is going in the right direction. He is a brilliant captain.”
With three world championships and 178 victories throughout 332 games across all forms, Dhoni is the most decorated skipper in India. In the meantime, Rohit has had a fantastic season, winning 84 of 114 games and boasting an amazing 73.68 win %. He recently guided India to tie the Test series in South Africa and the home World Cup final in 2023.

The former CSK batter said that, “Rohit has been amazing with his planning. He has been giving a lot of chances to the youngsters. The way he is rotating the players is something I have never seen in the last couple of years. Whenever the fast bowlers came in the last couple of years, we have seen injuries. But Rohit has been managing that really well.”
