‘Indeed true’ – Fans react as Gautam Gambhir heaps praise on ‘selfless leader’ Rohit Sharma

Team India defeated England by 100 runs in their sixth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 29 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. currently are in the top spot after a record six out of six wins in the tournament so far and are currently unbeaten in the tournament. However, Rohit Sharma, who struck out crucial 87 runs, received praise from Gautam Gambhir.

The former India opener feels 36-year-old skipper Rohit Sharma could have gotten 40–45 centuries in ODIs so far in his career; however, he is not obsessed with his ton. In addition, the 42-year-old cricketer called Rohit Sharma a selfless leader who always keeps his team first over his personal records. The well-renowned cricket commentator feels the Mumbai Indians stalwart is the great skipper who always stands up to lead his side from the front.

“Rohit Sharma would have got 40-45 hundred by now, but he is not obsessed with hundreds. A selfless leader does things himself first before expecting them from his teammates. If you expect positive batting from your team, you have got to do it first as a leader. Rohit has been a superb example of a skipper leading his team from the front,”  Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports.

The 2011 ODI World Cup-winning star feels Rohit Sharma currently stands in the 10th or 12th position; however, it does not matter to him as his ultimate goal is to lift the trophy on November 19. Moreover, the cricketer-turned-analyst is hopeful that Rohit Sharma will carry this great momentum into further games as well.

“Rohit has led his team from the front in this World Cup. He might be 10th or 12th in terms of runs but that doesn’t matter. Lifting that trophy on 19th November should be your goal. The way Rohit has batted in this World Cup, I hope he bats the same way in upcoming matches,” he added further.
