On Day Three of the ongoing WTC final 2023, India started the day with 151/5 on the board, trailing by 318 runs. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and KS Bharat were the overnight batters from the previous day. Meanwhile, on the second ball of the day, Scott Boland took the wicket of Bharat to send down some chills in the Indian team. At this stage, the 2021 finalists needed a big partnership.

As it turned out, Rahane and Shardul Thakur put together 109 runs for the second wicket. They both took India to the Lunch break with four wickets in hand. The former was nearing his hundred but wasn’t meant to be. Rahane was caught at slips after getting to 89 in the second session of the day. On the other hand, Thakur scored his third fifty in the second game at the venue he played.

Both ensured that the Asian side avoided the following-on embarrassment. In the end, they ended up getting 296 all-out, in reply to Australia’s 469. With this, the Kangaroos still got a whooping lead of 178 at the end of the first innings.

In the second innings, the Pat Cummins-led side had a poor start as David Warner’s poor form with the bat in red-ball cricket continued. He was caught behind by Bharat off Mohammed Siraj. Usman Khawaja, who bagged a duck in the first innings, only managed 13 before being by the same keeper but against Umesh Yadav.

At 24/2, the likes of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne put together 62 runs for the third wicket. Out of nowhere, Smith decided to take on Ravindra Jadeja and was caught by Thakur. Travis Head, who scored a hundred alongside Smith, was caught and bowled by Jadeja. Before stumps, Cameron Green and Marnus are batting at the crease. The team has reached 123/4, led by 296 runs with two days left in the game.
