FIFA World Cup 2022, Group D: Australia survive in race as they clinch win against Tunisia
Australia won the game with a scoreline of 0-1 on Saturday.
Australia and Tunisia locked horns in the Group D match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar on November 26, Saturday. The former took home the three points on the back of their sensational effort against the Carthage Eagles.
To add more, it was Mitchell Duke who produced an early lead for the Australians in the 23rd minute, when the star player capitalized on a corner and eventually hurried the ball past the Tunisia goalkeeper with a fabulous header.
On contrary, it was Tunisia who created more opportunities and eventually failed to make all of them count, while the Socceroos managed to maintain accuracy with their shots throughout the match, right from the start of the whistle.
In terms of possession and accuracy, Tunisia dominated the team right throughout the game and in the second half in specific, although they failed to match the lead, eventually letting Australia take home the much-needed 3 points.
Australia keep hopes alive in FIFA World Cup 2022
As things stand, the Socceroos are well alive in the race to make it through to the Round of 16 stage and it comes with their hard-fought win against Tunisia, given that it was the latter who held possession for the most part of the game.
While France are still topping the rankings, Australia stand second to them and the two teams are highly likely to make their presence felt in the knockouts, as Tunisia are yet to taste their first win of the multinational tournament.
Australia’s next clash would be against Denmark and they would hope to carry on with the momentum and take the win. However, it might not be easy given Denmark’s dominance and they are current favourites to win the match against the Socceroos.
Graham Arnold’s men will have to keep their hopes high if at all they have to stay in the race amidst tough competition from all the other teams in the group. Tunisia, on the other hand, will have to strive for their pride and would hope to clinch a win in their next game against France.
