The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off on November 20, Sunday, between Qatar and Ecuador in a grand manner, making it a great spectacle for the fans to witness the biggest sporting event unfold. The hosts, however, fell short of expectations and eventually lost the match to Ecuador with a scoreline of 0-2.
As things stand, it was a triple header on Monday, and it was England who stunned the spectators with their exemplary outing in their campaign opener against Iran. Amid the alcohol ban chaos, the English crowd, on the other hand, had a lot to celebrate from the match.
As things stand let us take a look at Day 2 round-up:
1) England vs Iran (6-2)
England got off to a great start to their World Cup campaign against Iran at the Khalifa International stadium, proving their might. Regarding the match, it was Jude Bellingham, the young midfielder who gave England an early lead in the 35th minute. With Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling scoring one goal apiece, England remained at 3-0 at the stroke of the first-half whistle.
As far as second-half is concerned, While Mehdi Taremi provided the first hope for Iran in the 65th minute, Saka grabbed a brace, with Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish scoring one goal each to give England a 6-1 lead. Taremi, however, managed to find another at the stroke of the final whistle and it was England who eventually won with a scoreline of 6-2.
2) Senegal vs Netherlands (0-2)
The second match between Group A teams Senegal and Netherlands turned out to be a great one and it was the latter who came out on top in the end. To add more to the match, Netherlands won with a scoreline of 0-2 and both goals, however, came towards the very end of the match.
While Cody Gakpo gave the first lead for the Oranje in the 84th minute, Davy Klaassen backed him up with yet another goal for the team at the stroke of the final whistle, letting Netherlands take the win home.
3) USA vs Wales (1-1)
The FIFA World Cup 2022 witnessed the first draw of the campaign as both teams, USA and Wales, scored one goal each to take home one point apiece. To comment more on the match, it was USA who took an early lead in the first half, with Timothy Weah scoring the goal in the 36th minute.
Despite a great defence from team USA, Gareth Bale managed to capitalize on the penalty towards the end and eventually matched the lead to take the game into a draw.
