‘Ek baar player se bhi pooch lo ye baat’ – Fans react to reports of KL Rahul being available for selection ahead of 2023 Asia Cup

KL Rahul might be part of the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 according to reports

After reports of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer being unavailable for selection broke out yesterday, fresh rumours have emerged stating that the former is fit and available to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 for Team India. If these new reports are anywhere close to being true, it will be a huge boost to the Indian team ahead of a busy five-month period, that includes the ODI World Cup 2023.

KL Rahul, while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the middle of the 2023 IPL season, sustained an injury in his thigh. The wicketkeeper underwent surgery in England, and although he has started working out in the nets, it was generally accepted that he was not yet ready for competitive cricket. The star Indian batter regularly posted updates of him working out and putting in the hard yards at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

Team India’s middle muddle

The Indian middle order has been plagued by the extended absence of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, as well as Rishabh Pant, particularly because Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson haven’t been consistent. The strong performance of Ishan Kishan at the top of the batting order, on the contrary hand, may force one of the openers to settle down into the middle order.

Before leaving for Sri Lanka, the team management plans to address the situation during the Asia Cup training camp held at the NCA in Bangalore between August 24 and 29. The team would therefore have a left-hand-right-hand duo at the top in Rohit Sharma and Kishan if Shubman Gill dropped to No. 4, which is an option being considered.

The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin on August 30. A hybrid format will be used for the ODI competition, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan as well as Sri Lanka. On September 2, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, India will play Pakistan in the opening match of their Asia Cup campaign.
