Indian allrounder Vijay Shankar produced a sensational innings that no one could have imagined. Shankar thrashed Kolkata Knight Rider bowlers at Gujarat Titans’ home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 9. Shankar was only dealing in sixes and didn’t even spare the fiery pacer Lockie Ferguson who was playing his first match of the season.
Talking about the match, GT won the toss and elected to bat first, however, their regular skipper Hardik Pandya ruled himself out of this match as he is unwell. Rashid Khan was leading the team in absence of Hardik. GT didn’t start well as they lost Wriddhiman Saha early but the young sensation Sai Sudharsan joined hands with Shubman Gill and steadied the ship.

Both were scoring at a good pace but Gill departed after scoring 39 runs. But then another Tamil Nadu player, Shankar joined Sudharsan and both made a brilliant impact, the left-hander got out after smashing his half-century. However, Shankar had different plans as he smashed Shardul Thakur for three consecutive sixes in the final over and helped the team to cross the 200-run mark. Shankar talked about his innings after the first innings and thanked the GT management for showing trust and retained him. He also recalled his last two IPL seasons where he couldn’t perform well and hoped that he will continue to contribute for the team in upcoming matches.
“Enjoying a lot more (this season). Last year something was off. This year I came in after a lot of runs in domestic. The franchise retained me, and showed confidence in me. The support staff has been helping me a lot since we started our camp here. Have been working really hard. It was tough. I got injured in World Cup. Didn’t do well in a couple of IPL seasons. Very important for us to keep doing well at whatever level. If we keep doing well, playing for the country will happen automatically.”
