Hosts India played Asian side Afghanistan in their second game of the ODI World Cup 2023. Afghanistan skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi won the toss and chose to bat first. When Rahmat Shah was out, the score stood 63/3 and Afghanistan had fallen into trouble. Rahmatullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim had excellent starts but wasted them.
But Azmatullah’s promotion was a great success. Along with his captain Hashmat, the all-rounder kept the innings steady and delivered ferocious hits to the spinners as well. Both of them reached their fifties, but the all-rounder was struck by a slower Hardik Pandya ball.
Additionally, it stopped the momentum along with slowing down the Afghanistan innings. Hasmatullah Shahidi, the captain, persisted and was on pace to score 100 runs until Kuldeep bowled him out.
Bumrah re-entered the game and scored four times to keep Afghanistan from reaching the 300-point mark. Afghanistan finished on a score of 272 courtesy of a four-fer by Bumrah. India are favourites to chase this total down and register their second win of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Team India made a mockery of Afghanistan’s total to claim a second victory
India’s skipper Rohit Sharma hammered his 31st ODI century and set India on pace for a crushing victory against Afghanistan. Rohit reached his century in 63 balls, setting a World Cup record for the quickest century achieved by an Indian. Ishan Kishan was a mere spectator during the powerplay as he watched Rohit smack the ball all over the park.
Kishan also complemented his skipper well throughout his 47-run stay at the crease. The duo had a mega partnership of 156 runs. Virat Kohli joined Rohit at the crease and Afghanistan brought in Naveen-ul-Haq to further fuel the rivalry between the two.
Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s trump card scalped two wickets of the two Indian openers. But Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli took control of things. Virat Kohli completed yet another fifty in a calm innings by the former captain. India won the game by 8 wickets and is now in the second position at the league table.

Nothing against Virat but there was no need to sneak in Virat here. It's due to ROHIT only obviously?

India would have chased down that 345 yesterday in like 38-40 overs.

I thought it would be a nail-biting contest, but Rohit Sharma made the chase appear like a walk in the park.
