India won the first match of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia in Chennai. The efforts of the Indian bowlers and the middle-order batters helped India to register a 6-wicket win against Australia. KL Rahul was awarded the Player of the Match award for finishing the match for India after staying not out and seeing his team home.
Talking about finishing the match, there was another batter, who wanted to do the same, and has done it many times in the past. Virat Kohli, who batted well against Australia, could not quite finish the match for the Indian team. After scoring 85 runs from his side, in the highest partnership for India against Australia in the ODI World Cup, Virat was dismissed.
Against a short delivery from Hazlewood which stopped after pitching, Virat could not get enough elevation. Virat tried to play a pull shot over the mid-wicket region to fetch four runs. Unfortunately, the slow nature of the surface meant that Virat could not get the elevation he wanted. In the process, Virat handed a simple catch to Marnus Labuschagne, who was stationed in the 30-yeard circle.

The dismissal of Virat did not go well with himself. the fans appreciated Virat for his knock. But Virat was visibly frustrated with the way he got out. Throughout his return to the pavilion and even in the dressing room, Virat was seen frustrated with his dismissal. The star batter would have liked to finish the match for India. But it was not to be. Instead, KL Rahul finished the match for India.
For more than 10 minutes, Virat was angry with himself. He knocked his own head and cursed himself. After the match, Virat was seen back in the world with a smile, as India won it. Australia was beaten for the first time in Chennai in the ODI World Cup. Virat’s 85 and Rahul’s 97 played a crucial role in helping India win the match.
