The Afghanistan team were put to bat after losing the toss. The openers slowly worked their way up to a fifty partnership. In three deliveries, they were both out, and after ten overs, the visitors were 57/3. At that point, Mohammad Nabi accompanied Azmatullah Omarzai to give the innings some momentum. 

They targeted Ravi Bishnoi, who gave up 35 runs in his three overs. The two developed an important fifty alliance. In the 18th over, Mukesh was able to remove both of the set batters. 

But in the final two overs, Najibullah Zadran and Karim Janat hit five boundaries to bring their team’s score close to 160. India were considered the favourites to chase it down since it was a strong batting wicket and dew was predicted to play a part.

India wrap up victory in first T20I against Afghanistan

Rohit Sharma’s first T20I innings after a 14-month hiatus came to a premature end. The skipper was the victim in a misunderstanding with Shubman Gill during the first over itself. Gill also could not last long as he departed after a mediocre 23 off 12.

Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube took over the control of the innings. They made sure India did not fall behind even more in the chase. However, their 44-run stand came to an end just before the drinks break. India lost three wickets before the 10th over mark but they were on target with the asking rate.  The Indian team were fancying their chances since they batted deep today. 

Jitesh Sharma was promoted up the batting order but was not able to stay till the end. He was able to make a significant contribution to the score. The wicketkeeper-batter had to depart after a magnificent 31 off 20 deliveries. 

Rinku Singh and Dube took the innings forward and made sure there were no more hiccups. Shivam Dube was able to make a crucial fifty against Afghanistan today. It was enough for the Indian team to chase the average total posted by the visitors. In the end, India won the first T20I at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali by 6 wickets.
