‘Don’t play in Indian T20 League’- Kapil Dev’s straightforward suggestion for players’ overpressure woes

The former Indian team captain’s answer is as blunt as it could be.

Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev, one of India’s greatest cricket players commands serious respect from all. His achievement in Indian cricket has risen his stature to an unprecedented level. This allows him to speak his mind out on matters that many keep mum about.

One such issue that Indian cricket is facing right now is workload management. Many players have also been injured as a result of this increased pressure. While many continue to complain of the increased workload due to Indian T20 League, the World Cup winner has given a straightforward suggestion to their pressure woes.

Speaking to an audience Dev said, “I hear a lot of times on TV that there’s a lot of pressure on players to play in the IPL. Then I only say one thing, don’t play.” He continues to explain further and said that he played the game because he was passionate about it and where there is passion, there is no pressure.

Here’s the video:

“If a player has passion, there will be no pressure. I can’t understand these American terms, like depression. I’m a farmer and we play because we enjoy the game, and there can’t be any pressure while enjoying the game,” Dev added.

Kapil Dev was similarly direct on Deepti Sharma- Charolette Dean controversy

Earlier he has given a similar straightforward solution to Deepti Sharma’s run out of Charlotte Dean. He had asked the rules to be changed in favour of bowlers and a non-striker getting out of the crease before the release of the ball to be adjudged a short run.

On his Instagram account, he said, “In a situation like this, I feel instead of intense debates every time – there should be a simple rule. Deprive the batsmen of their run. It should be deemed a short run. It’s a better solution in my mind.”

Kapil Dev is most known for leading India to their first World Cup win way back in 1983. Since then the country has won two World Cups under MS Dhoni.
